Bio
Shamus Whiting-Hewlett is a Canadian cinematographer with more than 30 years of experience in film and television.
He began his career in the lighting department, working for many years as a gaffer before transitioning into cinematography. That foundation in lighting continues to inform his work, giving him a strong technical understanding of image-making while allowing him to approach each project with flexibility, efficiency, and a clear point of view.
Shamus is passionate about storytelling and values the collaborative process of working closely with directors and producers to develop a distinctive language for each project. His approach is grounded in story and performance, using lighting, composition, and camera movement to support the emotional tone of the work rather than overwhelm it.
His career has taken him across Canada, the United States, and internationally, working in episodic television and narrative production.
